The overall objectives of the unit are:
1. To estimate heritabilities for common diseases and traits in adults.
2. Discover genes that influence these traits.
3. Provide a framework for epidemiologic studies using the twin design.
4. Develop statistical methodology to facilitate these aims

- The Wellcome Trust, the Medical Research Council and the Chronic Disease Research Foundation (CDRF) currently support TwinsUK. Since 2012, the GSTT/KCL NIHR Biomedical Research Centre has also provided support for twin visits. Several smaller charitable bodies and commercial companies have also contributed smaller grants.
